I was watching the documentary channel last night, yes its a real channel (having a brother who works for dish network is whats up) and I caught this program called "Waco: The Rules of Engagement" It was a doc. on the Waco / David Koresh thing...
When this went down back in '93 I was only 12 years old. I was old enough to know the situation but not old enough to know or care about the actual details of any of it... For those of you who were kinda in the same boat as me I would really suggest looking into this documentary. Its extremely interesting. and coming from me thats saying alot considering normally if its not sports or action packed Im not fuckin with it usually.
They interviewed a lot of the survivors and had tons of clips from congressional hearings concerning the situation. They gave a lot of background on the branch dividia and it really kind of scares you how bad our governement fucked this situation up... After you get the background info on this religion you find out that contrary to belief this Koresh dude did not actually think he WAS god as many believe, but more like God's last living spokesperson... The ATF orignally was n the case because he was rumored to have illegal firearms and was supposedly stockpiling guns. They were supposed to serve a search warrant,, and David Koresh even invited them inside to look around but instead of doing that the ATF raided them under false reasoning and the ONLY time shots were fired from Koresh's people were in self defense. They have video proving this and they even have tapes of 911 calls being made by people inside the Waco building begging the 911 dispatcher to call of the ATF because the people inside are innocent... Real fucked up shit.... While they are showing this they cut to interviews and congress hearings just showing the ATF spokespeople getting roasted showing how wrong they were
After that the FBI gets involved and basically sets the place a blaze and kills countless innocent people. The fucked up part is they had written word that Koresh was going to end the standoff just a few days later but they ignored it. They have tape of the FBI negotiator talking to Koresh's right hand man and just flat out lying to him... Its really fucked up
The impression I was under and I think alotta people were under the same impression that this guy was killing people which he did not do. The survivors they interviewed said they were not being held hostage, they could have left at anytime... and they sounded like normal people... Yeah, maybe they got some fucked up religious beliefs but its not like anybody was brainwashed or kidnapped. The photos that they show of what the gas did to the victims bodies when the FBI toched the place is just so fucked up. Bodies twisted like pretzels as a result of the gas and just charcoal.
I know this happened nearly 20 years ago, but like I said I think a lot of people were too young to really know the ins and outs of what happened there. Alotta false impressions that the governement had the media put out there to make it sound like these people were all criminals... FAR from the truth. I really really recomend checking this documentary ou. Its a scarry eye opener on how fucked up this governement is with them just MURDERING these people and being like "oh they deserved it"
